Every year, we are incredibly grateful to welcome volunteers from around the world to Ghana, and this summer has been no exception. Over the past few weeks, another fantastic group has joined us, bringing enthusiasm, compassion and a willingness to get stuck into every aspect of life at Akwaaba.
From the moment they arrived, our volunteers have immersed themselves in the local community, building genuine friendships with the children and becoming an important part of our projects. Whether they’re coaching football, assisting in classrooms, helping children improve their reading in the library, supporting creative activities or simply spending time talking, laughing and playing with the children, their impact can be felt every day.
Our volunteer programme is about much more than giving time—it’s about creating meaningful connections. By working alongside our local team, volunteers gain a deeper understanding of Ghanaian culture while sharing their own experiences, creating an inspiring exchange of ideas and perspectives. These relationships help broaden horizons for everyone involved and often lead to lifelong friendships.
The children absolutely love welcoming new volunteers into the Akwaaba family. The encouragement, confidence and positive role models they provide make a lasting difference, while volunteers leave with memories and experiences that stay with them long after they return home.
