This month, we had the pleasure of welcoming Tom to Ghana as part of our volunteer programme, and what an incredible few weeks it was.
From helping in the classroom to coaching football sessions and immersing himself in everyday life in Ghana, Tom embraced every opportunity that came his way. He quickly became a familiar face within the community, building relationships with the children and bringing enthusiasm, energy, and encouragement wherever he went.
Whether he was supporting students in the classroom, sharing his love of sport on the football pitch, or experiencing Ghanaian culture for the first time, Tom made the most of every moment. His willingness to get involved and connect with those around him left a lasting impression on both the children and the Akwaaba team.
Volunteers like Tom play a vital role in our work, helping us create meaningful experiences and opportunities for the young people we support. We are incredibly grateful for the time, effort, and positivity he brought during his stay.
Although Tom has returned home, his support for Akwaaba is far from over.
In just two weeks, Tom and his brother will be taking on an extraordinary challenge: an 18-hour padel marathon in Ipswich to raise funds for Akwaaba’s 10-Year Challenges campaign.
The pair will spend 18 hours on court pushing themselves to the limit, all in support of the children and communities we work with in Ghana. It’s an ambitious challenge, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their dedication.
