A huge congratulations to Jo, who completed the London Marathon 2026 while running in Akwaaba Volunteers’ very first charity place.
Jo first volunteered with us in Ghana in February, where she spent time with the children, saw the work first-hand, and experienced the impact of the projects we run in the community. That visit inspired her to take on the challenge of running a marathon in support of Akwaaba Volunteers.
She chose to dedicate her run to celebrating Akwaaba Volunteers’ 10-year anniversary, turning her personal challenge into something that could directly support the children and families we work with.
Not only did Jo complete the London Marathon, but she also smashed her fundraising target, raising vital funds to help us continue delivering education, healthcare and opportunities across our programmes.
Taking on a marathon requires months of training, commitment and determination, and we are incredibly proud that Jo chose to do it after seeing our work in Ghana first-hand.
Every mile she ran and every donation received will help create real impact for the young people we support.
If you are inspired by Jo’s journey, we would love to hear from you. We are now inviting expressions of interest for runners who would like to take on the London Marathon 2027 for Akwaaba Volunteers.
