This month, six girls from the Akwaaba programme were given an incredible opportunity to take part in a football clinic hosted by Manchester City in Accra.
For many young players, opportunities like this are once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and our girls were excited to represent Akwaaba alongside young footballers from across the city. The clinic brought together talented and enthusiastic players for a day focused on learning, development, and enjoying the game they love.
Throughout the 4 days, the girls took part in a variety of training sessions led by experienced coaches from one of the world’s most successful football clubs. They learned new techniques, improved their skills, and gained valuable insight into the dedication and teamwork required to succeed in sport.
Beyond the football itself, the event was a chance to build confidence, make new friends, and be inspired by the possibilities that sport can create. Seeing our girls step outside their comfort zones, challenge themselves, and embrace every opportunity was incredibly rewarding.
At Akwaaba, we believe sport has the power to transform lives. Experiences like this help our young people develop not only as athletes but also as confident, resilient individuals who believe in their own potential.
We are incredibly grateful to Manchester City and everyone involved in making this opportunity possible. Creating pathways and experiences for young people is at the heart of what we do, and this clinic was a perfect example of the positive impact those opportunities can have.
We are so proud of all six girls and can’t wait to see how they continue to grow both on and off the pitch. This may have been just four days, but the memories, lessons, and inspiration gained will stay with them for years to come.
