At Akwaaba Volunteers, we are passionate about empowering young girls through education, sport, and community. This spirit was on full display as our netball team proudly represented us at the Regional Independence Day Tournament, organised by the Ghana Netball Federation.
The competition brought together eight talented teams from across Accra, divided into two groups in an all-play-all format. From the very start, our girls showed determination, teamwork, and resilience. Match after match, they gave their all on the court, earning their place at the top of their group and securing a spot in the final.
The final was nothing short of thrilling. Facing a strong Spice Girls team, our players demonstrated incredible focus and teamwork in a tightly contested game. In the end, their hard work paid off as they secured a narrow and well-deserved 6–5 victory, crowning them champions of the tournament.
What made this achievement even more special was the diversity within the team. With a mix of ages and experience levels, every player contributed to the success of the day. It was a powerful reminder that with dedication, mutual support, and team spirit, anything is possible—no matter who steps onto the court.
In a truly heartwarming moment, the team chose their youngest player, Esther, to lift the trophy. It was a beautiful reflection of the values we strive to instill at Akwaaba Volunteers: inclusion, encouragement, and celebrating every individual’s contribution.
This victory is more than just a win—it is a testament to the confidence, resilience, and leadership that sport helps to build in young people. We are incredibly proud of our netball queens and all they have achieved.
