At Akwaaba Volunteers, we are constantly reminded of the power of community and connection—and this past Christmas, that connection reached all the way from the UK to Ghana in a truly meaningful way.
Just before the festive season, students and staff at The Royal Latin School came together to organise a donation drive and fundraising initiative to support children’s education in Ghana. Their efforts focused on collecting essential items such as shoes, trainers, books, and clothing, alongside raising funds to make an even greater impact.
Now, with all donations safely arrived in Ghana, we have had the privilege of sharing them with the children—and the experience has been nothing short of incredible. The joy, excitement, and gratitude on the children’s faces as they received these items is something that will stay with us for a long time.
The impact of this initiative has been significant. Over 300 new books have been added to the school library, creating more opportunities for learning and literacy. In addition, 60 pairs of trainers and 50 pairs of school shoes were distributed, along with a wide range of clothing—each item directly supporting a child’s daily life and confidence at school.
Beyond the physical donations, the funds raised will go even further, supporting four children through a full year of education. This kind of support has a lasting impact, helping to remove barriers and create opportunities for the future.
What makes this partnership even more special is the personal connection behind it. The Royal Latin School is where Jordan, co-founder of Akwaaba Volunteers, attended school. To now receive such generous support from a community so closely connected to our roots makes this a true full-circle moment.
This initiative is a powerful example of how education, generosity, and global collaboration can come together to create real change. We are incredibly grateful to everyone at The Royal Latin School for their kindness, effort, and support.
