Earlier this month, devastating floods swept across parts of Ghana, leaving many families without homes, possessions and the basic essentials they rely on every day. Sadly, several of the families supported by The Akwaaba Foundation were among those affected, losing clothing, school supplies, household items and, in some cases, their livelihoods.
In the immediate aftermath of the floods, we launched an emergency Flood Appeal to provide urgent support. We were overwhelmed by the response from our community. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we exceeded our fundraising target in just 42 hours, allowing us to begin helping families almost immediately.
Because of your donations, we have already been able to make a significant difference. We have replaced clothing, school uniforms and essential school supplies for every affected family, ensuring children can continue their education with as little disruption as possible. We’ve also distributed food packages to help families through the immediate crisis and provide some much-needed stability.
Beyond meeting immediate needs, we’ve also focused on helping families rebuild their futures. We have helped one family restart their small food business, providing them with the opportunity to earn an income again rather than relying solely on emergency aid.
Housing has been another major priority. We have secured a new home for a family of six, who will soon be able to move into a safe place to rebuild their lives. We are also actively searching for suitable accommodation for two more families who lost everything in the floods.
While there is still more work to do, the speed and generosity of your response has transformed what could have been a much longer and more difficult recovery. Instead of facing this crisis alone, these families have been surrounded by compassion and practical support from people around the world.
To everyone who donated, shared our appeal or helped spread the word, thank you. Your kindness has provided more than emergency relief—it has restored hope, dignity and the opportunity for families to begin rebuilding their lives. Together, we have shown the power of community, and we couldn’t have done it without you.
