After four days of hiking through the breathtaking Peruvian Andes, 16 incredible people completed the Inca Trail and arrived at the iconic Machu Picchu — all to help celebrate 10 years of Akwaaba and raise money to support our work in Ghana.
It was an unforgettable experience.
The group took on four days of challenging hikes, steep climbs, early mornings and plenty of tired legs, but every step was made worthwhile knowing that the challenge was helping to make a difference to children and families back home in Ghana.
And what an incredible way to celebrate 10 years of Akwaaba.
Four days. One incredible destination.
The Inca Trail is not an easy challenge. Over four days, the group navigated mountain paths, climbed thousands of metres, battled the altitude and pushed themselves physically and mentally.
There were tough moments, but there were also incredible views, plenty of laughter and a huge sense of achievement as the group continued towards their final destination.
Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for — arriving at Machu Picchu.
After four days of hiking, seeing the ancient site appear ahead of us was something none of the group will forget.
More than just a challenge
While the Inca Trail was an incredible personal achievement for everyone involved, the real purpose of the challenge was to raise money for Akwaaba as we celebrate 10 years of making a difference.
Together, the group raised an incredible £10,000+ to support our projects in Ghana.
That money will help us continue providing opportunities for children and young people through our work across education, sports, healthcare and vocational skills.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took part, everyone who supported the challenge and everyone who donated.
A huge thank you to all 16 trekkers for taking on the challenge and pushing yourselves every step of the way. Your determination, energy and fundraising efforts have made a huge difference.
What’s next?
The Inca Trail may be over, but there are always more challenges ahead!
