From Akwaaba to Ghana: Princess and Cecelia Represent Their Country

Two girls. One dream. A moment they will never forget.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate a truly special achievement for Princess and Cecelia, two girls who began their netball journey with Akwaaba and have now gone on to represent Ghana at international level.

They first joined our netball programme as young girls, developing their skills on the court alongside hundreds of other girls from communities across Accra. Through years of training, competition and dedication, both have continued to grow — not only as athletes, but as confident young women who believe in what they can achieve.

Now, they have taken the biggest step yet.

Princess and Cecelia were selected to represent Ghana in international matches against Côte d’Ivoire, proudly wearing the national colours and stepping onto court as representatives of their country. Ghana went on to win both games, making an already unforgettable experience even more special.

For us, this moment is about much more than winning a netball match.

It is about opportunity.

It is about what can happen when a child is given a safe place to play, a coach who believes in them, the chance to compete and the support to keep going.

When we started our sports programme, our goal was never simply to produce great athletes. We wanted children to discover their potential, build confidence, learn to work as a team and begin to imagine a future that might once have seemed impossible.

Princess and Cecelia are now living proof of what that opportunity can lead to.

Their journey from our community courts to the Ghana national team is something every child in our programme can look at and say:

“Maybe I can do that too.”

And that is the real power of sport.

We are incredibly proud of Princess and Cecelia — not just for representing Ghana, but for representing the determination, talent and potential of the girls who come through Akwaaba every day.

This is their achievement. But it is also a glimpse of what is possible when children are given the opportunity to dream bigger.

Congratulations, Princess and Cecelia. You wore the Ghana colours with pride, and we couldn’t be prouder.
