Akwaaba Volunteers has 14 different projects in Accra working with underprivileged children, disadvantaged communities, schools, sports teams and animals and this is why we do what we do….
One quarter of the population of Ghana lives in poverty and 1 in 12 people live in extreme poverty
Ghana is a very safe, stable and beautiful country But 3.5 Million children in Ghana live in poverty and more than one third of these live in extreme poverty
One quarter of students never complete primary school
Children are 40% more likely to live in poverty than adults
Urban poverty is rapidly growing due to a growing urban population and an increase in segregation as the inequality gap grows bigger
Accra has high unemployment rates with a lack of access to basic housing, water and sanitation
Ghana has a predicted housing deficit of 2.4 million in 2018
61492 Children live on the streets of Accra
87% of street children are there because of economic desperation
65% of children under 10 don’t attend school in Accra
Through our projects we can make a sustainable positive impact to change the lives of young people for the better, we are keeping children off the streets, creating better opportunities for young people and alleviating the poverty in the areas that we work in.
Each day Akwaaba Volunteers are working with 19 schools, 11 Sports teams, over 1000 children and empowering 500 girls from our community. This wouldn’t be possible without the help of our amazing volunteers and with your help we can do more!
