Through our education project we can ensure bright futures and opportunities for children in Ghana. As a teaching volunteer, you will work in local schools assisting in the classroom and working one on one with students. We have opportunities for everyone regardless of teaching experience with classes ranging from Nursery to High School.

We have a wide range of rewarding sports coaching opportunities available in Ghana. You will work with local teams, clubs and schools to develop the sport, skills and the players you will be working closely with.

Basketball  – Basketball is one of the most played and watched sports in Ghana with its popularity and participation still growing across the country. The majority of schools now offer Basketball in their curriculum and the Ghana Basketball Association are working hard to implement a dedicated training and development programme for young athletes. As a volunteer Basketball Coach you will be working in local schools and community clubs to help develop Basketball at a grassroots level in Ghana. With a growing number of participants and passion for the sport this is a fantastic opportunity for you to make an impact and help enthusiastic players to develop their skills and encourage more young people to get involved.

Boxing – Ghana is a nation with much success in the international boxing scene.  There have been many world class athletes who have brought recognition in the sport to Ghana including Ghana’s first ever Olympic Medal. You will be training in the home of boxing in Gyms that have produced 5 boxing world champions. As a volunteer you will work alongside local coaches to help junior boxers thrive in their game whilst also training alongside adults, raise your fitness level and gain an insight into boxing in Africa. Weather you are coaching the up and coming athletes or prefer to train to improve your mental and technical understanding of the sport this is a fantastic opportunity to use the power of sport to influence and help young people.

Football –  Football is Ghana’s number one passion. Every child grows up playing Football anywhere and everywhere they can. Because of this we are using football as a tool to help improve the lives of disadvantaged children and create better opportunities in the communities that we work with. As a football volunteer you will have the opportunity to work with any of our teams in Accra. We work with an academy of elite players aged 13- 18, we have 3 youth teams which are part of our “Street to School Soccer Project”, u13, u15 and u17 as well as a girls team who are playing in the only female league in Accra. You will be working alongside one of our enthusiastic coaches to help inspire the next generation, bring new drills to develop skills and technique, make football fun and provide a safe and supporting environment for the kids.

Hockey – Akwaaba Volunteers are working closely with the Ghana Hockey Association to help promote, develop and coordinate hockey in Accra. There is an increasing interest and participation rate in the sport, especially among young girls and boys wanting to learn more about the sport. As a hockey volunteer you will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the best players and coaches in Ghana. You will be based at Ghana’s National Hockey stadium in Accra with the opportunity to coach boys and/ or girls aged 8 all the way up to senior teams and help improve the players understanding of the game, skills, technique and game play

Netball – Netball is still a developing sport in Ghana although the introduction to the sport in Schools, colleges and universities across Ghana has seen a huge rise in female participation in sports and created a pathway for interested volunteers to make an impact through their coaching experience You can work alongside local coaches to.improve the quality of coaching and to provide a better understanding of all aspects of the game to allow access to hundreds of enthusiastic and passionate children across schools in our community, and to allow you to make a positive impact through your contribution to the sport.

Rugby – Although Rugby is still a grassroots sport in Ghana there is a huge amount of talent and passion for the sport. As a volunteer you will help to structure coaching sessions and help us to initiate positive and lasting change for individuals and communities using the universal power and simplicity of team sport. You will get the chance to coach in schools and the community both tag rugby and rugby to help to improve life skills, technique and the understanding of the game.

Tennis – Join our tennis coaching project in your gap year or career break by organising fun training sessions and competitive matches for many disadvantaged yet talented and enthusiastic children at Ghana’s national tennis stadium. Tennis is an emerging sport in Ghana which is improving its standards year by year and the Ghanaian Tennis Association is keen to welcome you to help develop the county’s young players. This is a rewarding opportunity for coaches and players to influence the next generation of athletes and help to develop the sport and individuals talent.



If you are looking to study medicine at university or to further your experience applying to this programme can really make your application stand out!

Working on this internship you will be shadowing a doctor in one of Accra’s biggest hospitals. Each week you will get to experience a different ward within the hospital dependent on your experience and interests. The doctor you will be shadowing will ensure that you are learning about every aspect of the hospital and medicine in Western Africa during your internship.

DURATION – 2- 12 weeks


As a childcare volunteer you will dedicate your time to the children at our underprivileged children’s centre and play a vital role in the enriching the lives of disadvantaged children. You will work with small groups or one on one with children to help their basic learning, communication and development. This is an extremely rewarding opportunity to make a huge difference.

DURATION – 1 -12 weeks


If you are currently studying physiotherapy looking to gain more experience or already qualified and looking for a change of environment our physiotherapy internship is an extremely rewarding experience. During your time in Ghana you will be working in medical clinics or alongside top sports teams, dependant on experience and interests, to help rehabilitate and restore movement to people affected by injuries illness or disabilities.

DURATION 2-12 weeks


As a horse care volunteer you will be working in Accra with the armed forces mounted unit and their 65 horses. Your duties will include mucking out, general yard duties, maintenance, feeding, grooming and exercising the horses. You will work alongside the local armed forces and yard workers to help to take care of the horses and to share your knowledge in ways to improve horsemanship in Ghana. There will also be riding opportunities to take advantage of.



Our primate conservation project is based in one of the biggest Forests in Accra at Accra Zoos endangered primate breeding and conservation center. Our focus is on working with critically endangered and endangered species native to Ghana. During your time on your project you will get involved with the following activities, feeding, cleaning, enrichment, monitoring, educational talks to school groups and visitors, promoting the “Against Primates as Pets Campaign”, enclosure maintenance and box training for travelling. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with primates towards a fantastic worldwide conservation effort and is a rewarding project for animal enthusiasts.



If you have a passion for working with animals, particularly in the field of Veterinary medicine then this voluntary project is the perfect way for you to gain some knowledge or put your skills into practice, with some work experience in the developing world. You will get to work in local clinics and practices to help deal with walk in patients and learn about the problems that people in Ghana are faced with when dealing with animals. You will be working closely with, or shadowing members of the veterinary team who will encourage you to get involved with as much as possible, be inquisitive and will give you the full experience of the type of work done by people in this field.
