Akwaaba Volunteers & Kicking Off Labadi Tournament”

On Saturday we hosted the third edition of our Kicking Off Labadi Tournament. It was an amazing day celebrating sport with 500 children from across Accra.

8 U12 Football Teams and 8 Primary School Girls Netball Teams were invited to enjoy a day of sports, a goody bag full of education and hygiene supplies (a pen, pencil, eraser, sharpener, exercise book, soap, face cloth, toothbrush and toothpaste), a medical check from the Elective Ghana team, a freshly prepared meal of Jollof Rice and Chicken, unlimited clean water all day, music, fun (even a bouncy castle) and more.

The day is not only an amazing opportunity for young children from disadvantaged backgrounds to enjoy friendly competition in the sport they love. It is also an opportunity to emphasise the values that we can teach through sports. Passion. Determination. Hard work. Discipline. Self belief. Honesty. Respect. Leadership. Culture. Teamwork to name a few.

There was some amazing talent on show from the participants in both the football and netball competitions. We are very lucky to be working with the Ghana Netball Federation to support the growth of netball in Ghana from grassroots level. The De blessing foundation also supported us with an amazing cultural dance before the final games were played.

The Girls Winners – LA Yahoshua Primary School.
Runners Up – Futurestars Charity

The Boys Winners – Corinthians F.C
Runners Up – Gomoa Sports

We also gave prizes to individuals for the player of the day, honesty, respect, determination, teamwork and passion.

Thankyou to all the coaches teachers, organisers, volunteers, helpers, referees, umpires and all 500 participants and the spectators and kids who came to watch and play on the bouncy castle. You guys are the reason why we do what we do.

” Sport has the power to change the world” and today we did our small part to help change 500 lives.
